Westchester Clubmen Foundation Raises $25,000 for Young Black Men
Orlando Ashford (2nd from left), president of the Talent Business Segment at Mercer, teamed up with New York Knicks Legend John Starks to host a fundraiser and auction benefiting the Westchester Clubmen Foundation's Higher Aims Education Program. Held on May 14, 2014 at Soho's famed Circa Tabac cigar bar, the auction featuring John Starks’ Signature Series cigars and memorabilia raised $25,000. Created in 1991 by the members of the Westchester Clubmen, the Higher Aims program provides educational intervention in the lives of nearly 100 young African-American and Latino men in Westchester County’s middle and high schools.
“Elegant for Prom”
“Elegant for Prom,” an initiative to provide homeless and disadvantaged Harlem students with prom and graduation attire was held on May 8, 2014 at the famed Harlem Haberdashery. Young professionals and celebrities gathered at the location to donate new and/or gently-used prom and graduation attire. Among those donating gowns were Grammy award-winning singer Chrisette Michele, Dominique Sharpton (Rev. Al Sharpton’s daughter), Broadway Star Lauren Lim-Jackson (Motown & Memphis), Dr. Aisha Stroop, former Aetna division President Chekesha Kidd, and Harlem Community Leader Landon Dais. Over 200 suits and formal and semi-formal dresses were collected exceeding the goal of 150 donations. The event was organized by Harlem Haberdashery, Young Professionals United for Change (YP4C) and community activist, Tamika Mallory.
