Friends of Ebonie will host the sequel to its cutting-edge signature panel series, February 21
New York, NY – It is no longer a question of whether or not black millennials are ready to make a change within their community. The question now is: how do they identify the problems, form the solutions, and create the cause work? Civic engagement and career enrichment boutique Friends of Ebonie has the answer through its signature mixer and panel discussion series: Defining Young Black Philanthropy. Following its debut in Harlem, N.Y. in November 2012, the second installment of the event will take place in Washington D.C. on February 21, 2013.
On Thursday, February 21st from 6:30pm- 9pm at The National Headquarters of the National Council of Negro Women, young black professionals will gather to network, and discuss the state of black philanthropy as it relates to their millennial generation. During the mixer, attendees will be able to meet and greet select local Washington, DC area non-profit organizations seeking to connect with young professionals through leadership, volunteer, and donor opportunities. Non-profits confirmed to attend are: D.R.E.A.M. Life Inc., A Legacy Left Behind, Dreams Work, The MusicianShip, Black Benefactors, and Michelle In Training.
Following the mixer, the panel discussion on social influence, civic engagement, and philanthropy will begin featuring accomplished sector leaders and influencers. Panelists include: Stefanie Brown-James, CEO of Vestige Strategies & Former National African American Vote Director, Obama for America 2012, Rita Lassiter, Secretary of the National Urban League Young Professionals, Kezia Williams, Chair of Capital Cause, Clarence Wardell, III, Ph.D., Co-Founder of Tweenate & Research Analyst for CNA, and Joshua Lopez, Political Adviser and Former At-Large City Council Candidate. Defining Young Black Philanthropy gives millennials the opportunity to have a candid conversation about how they will play an active role in the systematic change they wish to see. When asked what separates this event from the New York event, Friends of Ebonie Founder and President, Ebonie Johnson Cooper said, “We’re going to the Nation’s Capital, where they speak the language of philanthropy every day. You can’t bet on a better place to find young community game changers and policy makers.”
